Vista Wireless Issue - "Windows cannot connect to (network)"
Hello everyone...I've never imagined myself actually posting foir help, but I'm at the point that i don't know what else to do...I own a Dell Inspiron 1420.. Which i recently formatted. The first thing i tried to install was the driver for my Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. So i can get Online and continue restoring my system..I installed the driver right off of my Dell Resource CD, for Drivers and Utilities..I tried to connect to my router, and BOOM, I got that error, Windows cannot connect to SDS-Network, which is my network.. note: The issue is not my router, my wife's laptop connects, and so does my other pc that has a wireless card in it.. + my laptop gets the same error for every other network in the area... and there are quite a few.Moving on,I went to dell.com, and tried with the drivers from them after entering my Service Tag: 621KLD1.. same issue..Tried with the same drivers, but for XP instead of Vista..same issue..Went to intel.com, got their drivers..same issue..I also saw a thread online, about someone with the same problem, but his problem was fixed by going into the card's advanced properties and and changing a setting to disabled, i forget which setting it was, but i did try that also, and..same issue..I also tried something I also saw online about some registry entry thing that was missing, and that didn't work either..same issue.I am quite desperate... I need my laptop for work, i am a web developer, and without connection, i can't work. Please.. if anybody knows the deal or is willing to help, any help will be greatly appreciated..

I have two HP 8510w laptops (one I've been using for about a year and another that is a replacement for a faulty unit) Both are running Windows Vista and have the same spec (except for the hard drive size) Laptop 1 (old one) = connects fine to all my wireless networks - at home and at work (Linksys WAG160N, WRT300N). Laptop 2 (new one) = I have updated all my network drivers, Windows updates, everything and it connects to router at the office (WAG160N) but not the one at home and a various other locations. Itsees all available networks, andit prompts me to enter the passwordbut when I do it gives me "Windows cannot connect to <network name>" error. I have even triedmy sparewireless router - linksys 54 - and Laptop 1 connects fine while Laptop 2 doesn't. I have tried WEP, WAP, no security -no luck. I have tried updating drivers from HP website, Intel website - no luck. I did all HP update & Windows updates - no luck I tried matching the driver of the old laptop's network card to the new one - no luck I have tried this :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/ -No luck I have tried changing the channels on my router - no luck Firm ware on my router - completely updated I have tried Hardware Profile change / disable for the WLAN in Control Panel>Admin Access> Service>WLAN - no luck I have tried setting a static IP on the TCP/IP v4 - I couldn't ping myself Tried disabling TCP/IP v6 - no luck Updated BIOs and tried Restore Defaults setting in the BIOS - no luck. Ipconfig / all - does not show IP address for Wireless lan I tried manually entering the networkd details (SSID/security settings etc) - no luck I have tried re-installing Vista Ultimate 4 times (using the Driver DVD that came with the laptop) - no luck Since it is a brand new laptop, I haven't installed anyvirus software, but I tried disabling all windows firewall etc - still no luck. I REALLY need to connect to the net at home wirelessly - and I can't seem to find a solution for it anywhere on the net. I have read that it could be an Intel 4965AGN wireless network adapter / vista compatibility issue... but if that were the case both laptops should fail to work.. I can't understand how two laptops with same spec (but slightly different drivers - as the drivers don't really auto-update themselves) work so differently. Please help!!!
